At Prince of Peace Catholic School, students exercise their creativity on various enjoyable projects following our curriculum under the direction of our art faculty. The curriculum offers a sequential art training program that builds on what students have learned in previous grades and prepares them for the next grade.
The curriculum has two fundamental goals.

Monet's Le Pont Dans Le Jardain
by Katherine 3rd Grade
|
First, over 9 years from K5 to 8th grade, students receive a complete coverage of all essential elements and principles of art including color, line, shape, form, texture, pattern, balance and emphasis.
Second, students learn about and imitate in their own ways the masters of the western art world (like Monet, Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Matisse, and more).
|
Van Gogh's Starry Night
by Matthew Kindergarten
|
Students receive a thorough introduction to art history, media exploration, creative self-expression, and drawing techniques as seen in the work of the masters

Experiment with The Line
by William First Grade |
|
Children from K4 to 8th grade study music at Prince of Peace. Our music program director has been trained in the Ward Method of vocal instruction, a method taught at the Catholic University of America which aims at instruction of music fundamentals and elementary choral performance for Catholic school children.

 |
|
According to one description of the Ward Method, “children discover vocal and intonation exercises, count meter, and experience rhythm as movement. They creatively use each musical element through exercises, games and their own compositions. Thus, when the children are presented with a new song at the end of the lesson, they are easily able to separate and then rejoin the musical elements it contains.”

We also offer to students an opportunity to learn a band instrument. Students may take lessons in woodwinds, percussion, or brass instruments. There is an extra fee for this opportunity that is operated at our school by an independent company: The Paul Effman Music Company.

For our Wednesday’s school masses, students in 5th to 8th may take part in our school chorus, the St. Cecilia Chorus. Practices are Wednesday mornings before Mass. We also offer extra curricular choral opportunities; these practices are after school on Wednesdays. Students in K5 & 1st grade are invited to take part in the parish “Primary Choir,” students 2nd to 5th may take part in the “Children’s Choir,” and middle school students may take part in the parish “Junior Choir.”
